weekend reading:

" very quickly I ran into this unnamed thing that unraveled connection in a way that I didn't understand and had never seen before and it turned out to be shame. Shame is really easily understood as the fear of disconnection : 'is there something about me that if other people see it I wont be worthy of connection'
What underpins this shame - this I"m not good enough - is excruciating vulnerability. In order for connection to happen we have to let ourselves be seen"
  • cooking dinner on Tuesday, I heard A Fine Frenzy's Near to You for the first time in two years. The lyrics sounded completely different, and struck me so hard.
  • Meredith Grey's Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me scene still gives me goosebumps.
  • a passage about pulling it together, from Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife
"When we met I was wreck, blasted, and damned, and I am slowly pulling myself together because I can see that you are a human being and I would like to be one too. And I have been trying to do it with out you noticing, because I still haven't figured out that all pretense is useless between us."
  • on being ready (even when you're not ready).
  • These Are The Ways You Love Yourself  by Meg Fee : "the only way to know the story is to go out and write it. live your way into it. ferociously. beginning to live and work and fight and love with unparalleled ferocity. let fear dictate nothing"

have the courage to be imperfect today.

  1. I TOTALLY AGREE about the meredith grey scene- best scene of the entire series!! or it might be tied with the "you dont get to call me a whore" scene :)

  2. Yes, I adore that seen in Greys. As well as the one you listed above ^^. You sound like my kind of person! :)

And that post by Meg was brilliant (as all of hers are.)

Oh, and I really do love that you only snap film. I need to work on my skills. Where do you develop your film at here in Portland?

    1. **please excuse the grammatical errors. I swear I know it's "scene" not "seen." Sheesh. Fridays.

  3. Kate, I just drop the everyday 35mm at Camera World downtown. They do 1 hr for about 8 dollars (I get the film processed, scanned to disk, and a contact sheet. Then have prints made afterward of whatever turns out). For 120mm and B+W I take it to Pro Photo, since the other place mails it out and doesn't do the best job.

Let's go on a photo safari together sometime.

  4. Love that you quoted The Time Traveler's Wife. It's one of my favorite things about Henry and Claire's relationship - the way they know one another... <3

  9. I remember talking to you about the vulnerability discussion. I love that. I think about it often.
Also, I heard that song the other day and totally cried in my car. On Hawthorne. At a stoplight.
Double also, I'm watching "Grey's Anatomy" from the beginning and that episode was even more amazing than I remember.
Triple quadruple also, I love you.
