When my sister became engaged, my Dad's partner Linda brought her a pineapple.
Linda is from New Orleans and she's Creole, a mix of French and African-American that goes back to the original settlers of Louisiana. Giving a pineapple is a Creole tradition - it's a symbol of celebration and hospitality, a great wish for two people who will soon be making a home together!
Traditions like this are one of my favorite parts about having a modern-family. Since Linda joined us we've gained a lot (... especially weight from her pralines.) And, when she shared this it reminded me that Lily gets to learn all the special ways her new side-of-the-family celebrates!

That's a neat tradition! I've always equated the pineapple with hospitality, but I think I may be giving it as a gift soon!
