Waiting outside for a table at The Screendoor in September, we had our first real rain of the year. It made the perfect cozy comfort-food-filled brunch for Tessa's birthday ... featuring every good thing in the world : fried chicken, drinks in mason jars, bacon and pecans.
I love The Screendoor - right down to the name. It makes me think of the lyrics from Taylor Swift
our song is the slamming screen door, sneaking out late, tapping on your window.
and about a boy I once liked in my French class, whose car smelled like cigarettes. September is a much different month in San Diego, and summer continues despite school starting. My fling was short lived, but every once in a while I'll hear the push-latch on a screendoor and think of warm afternoons skipping class with a bottle of cornerstore zinfandel.
Sometimes happiness is so easy.
Just a song, or a someone, or a Sunday brunch with friends.
Wow, how random! I live a couple blocks from here. :) Nice connecting with another Portlander. Beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Sam! I've been dying to try this place. I think I'm going to need to make it happen soon!
ReplyDeleteBrynna : I love this city for that reason. So often I'll find a blog or an artist I really like and then look at their specs and be like "of course they're from Portland!"
ReplyDeletekate : you really do! It's actually worth the wait (and I am not a very patient person)
Looks like such a sweet and perfect meal & celebration!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm jealous that I don't live in Portland with you and Brynna. Lovely post.
ReplyDeleteI love the imagery of this sentence : "but every once in a while I'll hear the push-latch on a screendoor and think of warm afternoons skipping class with a bottle of cornerstore zinfandel."
You always manage to snap my imagination awake with words like these.
i love these photos and i love the screen door! i dream about their chicken & waffles and it's the only place that gets craig out of bed for brunch. everything else is just sub-par in his book :).
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with these photos, and the screen door. I am especially envious of the first one where you combined two. I have been dying to know...is there certain software, or a website you use to do this?
ReplyDeleteMacKenzie : I use the 'combine' function on Photoscape - a super easy (and free!) basic photo editor. You can download it at Photoscape.org
ReplyDeleteSam,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I will definitely try this out.
