When I was invited by The Equals Record to guest edit the weekly column What Are You Reading, (Offline, That Is) I immediately thought of my friends Laura and Meg. They're both beautiful writers, bloggers, and my go-to girls when I need a good read. So, we met for coffee at Stumptown in New York - just one of many adventures we had together that weekend - and I asked them for a few of their favorites.
Here's a list of the books we picked, and you can read all about why we love them here!
Laura | Little Things and Curiosities recommended ...
- Love Walked In by Marisa De Los Santos
Meg | The Wild and Wily Ways of a Brunette Bombshell recommended ...
- Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed
and I recommended ...
- High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
- Walkable City: How Downtowns Can Save America, One Step at a Time by Jeff Speck
- Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion

High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I confess I've never read the book it was based on. Maybe this will be the year I pick it up. :)
ReplyDeleteBethany, I haven't seen the movie yet! But, the book is really fresh and lively, all about being broken-hearted (a favorite topic of mine!) We have a tendency to love the same books, so let me know what you think.
DeleteThis is great; thank you!
ReplyDeleteThree of my favourite bloggers in one post - awesome! I will write down the recommendations for later!
ReplyDeletei am so happy to see a list of recommendations from you three ladies! i have recently gotten back into reading - after a bit of a slump, unfortunately - & i'm excited to check out a couple of these selections!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lauren, I take both recommendations in high esteem! And, Laura was right: Love Walked In was such a memorable and heart-warming book. And, I totally get what you mean by a reading slump. All it takes is one book I don't quite "click" with, and trudge through it page-by-page and completely lose my reading rhythm!
DeleteI've never heard of anything of these and I've been keeping an eye out for new books. Can't wait!! :)

great picks! i'm ashamed of how long it's been since i've read a real book (and not a magazine, or a blog, or a news story). thank you for sharing some recommendations!
