During the winter I don't take off my clothes to put on my pajamas. I take off my clothes to reveal the pajamas I've been wearing underneath my clothes all day long. At this point, I'm pretty much a never nude. With the snow melting at home in Portland - and more on the way to all of us on the East Coast today - I thought I'd share my strategy for bundling up!
Sam's Snowsuit:
- accessories are not optional - hat, scarf, mittens (they keep your fingers way warmer than gloves and bonus: they make your hands look like a little whale!)
- three layers up-top - a long-sleeve thermal underneath a wool sweater. cable knit erryday. and a coat that's more-or-less a sleeping bag.
- legs - my #1 pro-tip: wear leggings/tights underneath your jeans! also, long socks which pull up over the bottom of your leggings to seal it in. This is what I call my "secret-heat" strategy because once you take off the hat, gloves and sleeping bag you look cute and like you're in totally normal clothes.
- feet - leopard print pumps aren't cutting it anymore. Now, I wear the tivoli from Sorel (similar to the ones on this very stylish lady on the sartorialist!) Or, all the Massachusetts girls wear insulated Bean boots.
these photos are from last year's "snowicane" Nemo, which truly tested the suit and has since left me completely unfazed by all other weather systems. stay warm out there! xo.
This is EXACTLY my go-to winter outfit too! (Only now replace sorrels with rainboots for the aqua alta!) After months of leggings under jeans, the feeling of denim on bare skin in the springtime is such a strange sensation...

DeleteYES. I live in my Sorels--I wear the Slimpack Riding Tall Boot. Sometimes they still aren't tall enough. Oh, Minnesota.
