weekend reading | {metaphorically} Haunted Houses
- on wondering if we made the right choice
- on fate: I Go Back to the House for a Book by Billy Collins
- "The french philosopher Gaston Bachelard, author of The Poetics of Space, wrote that "our house is our corner of the world," the first universe we inhabit as a child, literally the cradle of our lives. And if Bachelard is right, we carry our first house with us as a fund of memories with which we domesticate all our subsequent houses. "Home" is then a portable concept, though it has an origin in our individual experience. But that experience is necessarily one of loss. It is by leaving our first house that we acquire the shades of the past that make our later houses homes.

"All our houses are haunted houses, inhabited by the ghosts of our past, the dream like images of our childhood." - so true.
