get out the aran sweaters!

Last year at the Holyoke St. Paddy's day parade all the people lining the streets were wearing these butter colored cable knit sweaters. I was like what are those and where can I get one? Turns out, it's called an aran sweater (or aran jumper if you're really serious) and it's a classic Irish fisherman's pullover. This christmas my East Coast dreams came true and Tyler got me my very own aran sweater. It's so warm and smells a little bit like a sheep. the real deal. On St. Paddy's day, it's just as good as any sparkly shamrock headband. And every other day of the year, it's me and Steve McQueen.

A Styled Saturday

122

I styled a shoot with my friend, Paul, this summer and got to spend some time on the other side of the camera when I wasn't being too awkward.

I am wearing ...

  • cardigan: filched from Tessa's closet {Nordstrom's}
  • belt: I found any excuse to wear it this summer. It was also in my shoot for Urban Weeds. from local boutique {Sloan}.
  • linen shirt: filched from Eli's closet - although I can't imagine him in it with out looking like someone from the cast of Miami Vice. {probably goodwill}
  • bracelet: Jessica Kagan Cushman. Reads "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" a line from my favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz.
  • shorts: J. Crew My hair wasn't usually as well brushed, but besides that, this was pretty much my look this summer. what were your go-to items for sunny days?

(p.s.) an interview I did with the bracelet designer, Jessica Kagan Cushman.

I Just Play One on TV ...

I am wearing ...
  • dress: Ella Moss {Anthropology}
  • belt: from local boutique {Sloan}
  • Michael Kors shoes: thrifted {Buffalo Exchange}
  • bracelets: Forever 21
  • necklace: Erica Tanov {a gift from my best friend Jessi}
  • lipstick: Chanel, Dragon
  • nailpolish: Chanel, Dragon

When you write a letter to the editor of the New York Times or clip a picture from Vogue it's rare that anything comes of it. But, blogging is different and special because of things like this. It was weird to be on the other side of an interview, especially with someone who made me just starstruck. I'm a bit of an awkward duck (a product of being so skinny growing up) - so these pictures are a true testament to her talent!

When we talked about my personal style I told her There is nothing rock-and-roll or avant-garde about the way I dress. I have a casual, earthy lean to my preppy style and I've never been able to pull off wearing much makeup or anything grunge revival. Because of this I'm rarely on the forefront of the trend watch, but I do incorporate fresh pops that are consistent with the way I like to style myself. It helps having hair like I do - I'm always with my biggest, permanent and most signature accessory.

Daisy Chain Headbands

We made daisy-chains at the bar this weekend!
Even better than a hipster headband.

I hold to the fashion philosophy that you can either wear sequins or wear something form fitting.

 ... unless you're Tina Turner.

I thought the t-shirt shape on this was refreshing. I was inspired by the Charlie Joe frock featured on The Glossy, and I think  Coquette would applaud!
